Benefits of Invisalign
Tempe, AZ

A woman wearing invisalign at A Great Smile Arizona.Overcrowding, misaligned teeth, and other bite problems can create an array of oral problems including difficulty chewing, inability to ensure proper teeth and gum cleaning, and perhaps pain and discomfort. People with overcrowded and crooked teeth often feel embarrassed and will tend to keep their mouths closed, fearing that others will see their teeth. Teeth misalignment can increase your odds of developing gum disease. While there are various treatment options dentists use to correct crooked teeth and overcrowding, Invisalign stands out to be more superior and effective.

For those patients who are concerned or unhappy with their smile, Dr. Mike and the rest of our team at A Great Smile Arizona can provide a less invasive procedure than the traditional braces option, known as Invisalign. They work on the same principle as traditional braces in that they shift teeth into proper alignment gradually. This is done without permanently fixed wires and brackets which draw attention to a patient’s mouth, making some social interactions uncomfortable. Each Invisalign alignment tray is worn for approximately two weeks, using only mild pressure to slowly shift the patient’s teeth. Patients cycle through each tray until the teeth are straightened into proper alignment. Our team at A Great Smile Arizona will evaluate you for Invisalign candidacy before offering the treatment, and we can help answer any frequently asked questions about Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

You need to get acquainted with the Invisalign system before you receive the treatment because it helps you know what to expect. The Invisalign system is an orthodontic procedure that consists of custom trays. The trays, also referred to as clear aligners, are the tools used to fix dental issues such as an overcrowded mouth or gapped teeth. Invisalign clear aligners are an alternative to traditional metal braces. An Invisalign system works to straighten the teeth without needing to put on metal brackets. Additionally, Invisalign helps address issues like underbite, overbite, crossbite, and open bite. The Invisalign trays are removable. Our dentist will guide you on how to use the trays for optimal results.

Why Use Invisalign?

With Invisalign, patients report far less discomfort than those who choose traditional braces. Even though teeth aligners use only mild pressure, the process generally takes much less time than traditional braces do. Though each individual patient is different, the average length of time needed to achieve proper alignment with Invisalign is 10 to 24 months.

While traditional braces treatments require patients to alter their diet and abstain from eating certain foods, which may stick to or damage the installed wires, Invisalign alignment trays can be easily removed allowing for no dietary restrictions. And because they are removable, patients experience greater comfort and a higher degree of oral hygiene, all while achieving the perfect smile. Patients can be confident, not having to worry about embarrassing moments while eating and socializing.

When Is It Right to Use Invisalign?

While traditional braces require additional protection while participating in sports, Invisalign teeth aligners do not. By being able to remove them, there is no need to take extra steps to not only protect the patient’s mouth from injury but also the wires and brackets from damage. For those patients wanting to straighten their teeth and have their perfect smile without the limitations of traditional braces, Invisalign is the obvious choice.

How the Invisalign System Works

When at our dental office, our dental team will make individualized aligners that work specifically for your bite. You will have to wear these clear aligners for a particular period before moving on to the next set of aligners. An important thing to mention is that you should wear your clear aligners throughout the day, except when cleaning the mouth and eating. It is the aligners that gradually and discreetly push the teeth to their right position. Your treatment could last 9 to 15 months depending on the extent of the bite misalignment. We ask you to wear the aligners for no less than 22 hours daily so as to ensure they effectively move the teeth. You will need to wear a particular set of aligners for about two weeks before moving to the next. Our dentist may also change the period in which you have to wear the aligners before changing to the next trays.

The Placement of Invisalign

The process starts with an initial appointment when our team will make an impression of the patient’s teeth. A custom set of teeth aligners will be made to fit the patient’s mouth. Once that is completed, our staff will work with the patient to create a long-term treatment plan. In order to ensure the best results, it is highly recommended the patient carefully follow the outline as instructed.

Benefits of Invisalign

For those who have an overbite, underbite, their mouth is overly crowded, or they have gaps between teeth, the clear plastic teeth aligners from Invisalign are a perfect option. They require fewer appointments than traditional braces minimizing the amount of time spent in the office. Patients with a busy lifestyle will definitely appreciate less office visits.

Invisalign is preferred by many patients since they work discreetly to move teeth. Because the aligners are clear, it means they are not readily visible. No need to worry about other people seeing that you have braces. Additionally, you are able to eat whatever you like since the trays are removable. Moreover, it is easy to take care of Invisalign trays as well as your mouth since you brush and floss as usual. Because the trays aid with closing gaps, it helps reduce the chances of developing gum disease.

Taking Care of Invisalign Aligners

One benefit of Invisalign, unlike with traditional braces, is that it will not alter your regular oral hygiene routine much. Make sure you take them out of your mouth while eating. Clean your mouth properly whenever you want to put them back in. Once you drink or consume anything sweet, make sure you clean the mouth with mouthwash or water. More importantly, wash the trays using tap water every day to keep off bacteria that may be lodged in them. During the time you are putting on the aligners, a sticky, white biofilm will form on them. Extra cleaning involving soaking the aligners in an antimicrobial solution is advised as it helps kill bacteria.
