Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are ultra-thin sculpted pieces of tooth shaped porcelain that fit over the front of the teeth. They are the most widely used cosmetic restoration for chipped, malformed or significantly stained teeth. Following orthodontic treatment veneers are often used to enhance the shape of the natural teeth, and create a uniform appearance. Unlike crowns, porcelain veneers do not require significant removal of tooth structure.
Veneers are created in a dental laboratory from an impression taken at your first appointment. The teeth are prepared to accept the veneers and patients leave the office with temporary veneers. To ensure the best possible final result, we ask our patients to visit the lab to enable one of their experienced technicians to exactly match the natural teeth shade. Approximately three weeks after the initial visit a follow up appointment is scheduled at which the veneers are permanently cemented to the teeth. Veneers are stronger and have a longer life than bonding.
Composite Bonding
Composite bonding can, in some cases, be an alternative to veneers. The material used is composite resin, a tooth colored mixture filled with glass (silicone dioxide), this is the same material that is used for tooth colored fillings.
Composite bonding can be a temporary measure for patients who would like veneers eventually. It is also a good option for patients that have small chips.
